What Is PEEK?

PEEK (Polyetheretherketone) is top-tier semi-crystalline high-performance thermoplastic with outstanding mechanical strength, extreme heat & chemical resistance, widely used where standard engineering plastics cannot meet harsh working requirements.

Four Main PEEK Grades For CNC Machining

Unfilled Natural PEEK

Max chemical inertness & excellent biocompatibility, best electrical/optical property, lower rigidity than filled grades. Ideal for medical devices, semiconductor cleanroom parts & food-grade components.

30% Glass-Filled PEEK

Improved stiffness & anti-creep performance, slightly reduced chemical & impact property. Suitable for high-load structural brackets & general industrial components.

30% Carbon-Filled PEEK

Highest rigidity, minimum thermal expansion & superior wear resistance, conductive not for insulation use. Perfect for aerospace high-precision structural & bearing parts.

PEEK-HPV Bearing Grade

Compound with PTFE+carbon for ultra-low friction & outstanding abrasion resistance, customized for high-cycle dynamic thrust washers & sliding bushings.

Core Benefits Of Using Machined PEEK

Max 250°C Continuous Heat

Stable mechanical property under long-term high temperature, repeatedly autoclave sterilizable for medical disposable parts.

Metal-Like Strength-To-Weight

Tensile up to 200MPa for carbon filled, lightweight alternative replacing aluminum for weight reduction design.

Broad Chemical Resistance

Resist most acid, alkali, oil & organic solvent under varying high-temperature working environments.

Ultra Low Moisture Absorption

Nearly no water intake, dimension stable in humid environment vs hygroscopic Nylon material.

Excellent Wear & Fatigue

Long service life for cyclic dynamic bearing & sealing components under repeated friction load.

Medical Biocompatible

Unfilled grade non-toxic, radiolucent without X-ray artifact for surgical instrument components.

Thermal & Dimensional Critical Design Info

Unfilled PEEK maintains mechanical performance up to 250°C for continuous service; HDT ~160°C under load; carbon-filled up to 300°C HDT. Low thermal expansion, especially in carbon-modified grades close to aluminum, greatly reduces assembly clearance issues with temperature changes.

Unfilled PEEK withstand repeated 121~134℃ autoclave cycles without deformation, a core advantage for reusable medical device components.

Design Tip: Confirm the working temperature and sterilization requirements to select the correct PEEK grade during the quotation stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

A: This is a process where plastic items are made to order by precisely cutting up Polyether Ether Ketone (PEEK) materials using Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines.

A: Among the helpful tips are employing the services of specialized PEEK machinists, selecting suitable grades depending on their intended application, using carbide or silicon carbide cutters, and ensuring proper cooling during machining so as not to build up stress which could cause deviation from required dimensions.

A: The material exhibits excellent mechanical properties such as high strength and rigidity coupled with chemical inertness, making it suitable in the aerospace industry and automotive sector, among others, like medical implants where biocompatibility is highly demanded.

A: Medical grade, Industrial grade, Carbon fiber reinforced, etc., each having unique features that may be more advantageous than others depending on specific needs.

A: It possesses outstanding characteristics like lightness but is also stronger than other materials, thus having an excellent strength-to-weight ratio. Additionally, it has good resistance against heat distortion even under extreme conditions, together with a low coefficient of friction, hence making it very useful, especially when there’s a need for lubrication between moving parts.

Yes. We provide bead blasting, polishing, painting, silk-screen printing, and ultrasonic welding. Specify your finish requirements when requesting a quote.

We prefer 3D CAD files (STEP/IGES) for accurate quoting and machining. However, if you only have a 2D PDF drawing with dimensions, our engineering team can work from it — though turnaround may take slightly longer.

Every batch undergoes dimensional inspection using CMM, calipers, micrometers, and optical comparators. We provide an inspection report upon request.
